Greece preparing to modernize the Bahçeköy (Kipi) Border Gate
Konstantinos Papageorgiou, President of the Hellenic Logistics Association, visited the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) together with his delegation, where they were hosted by ITO Board Member Dr. Salih Sami Atılgan. “The trade volume between Türkiye and Greece has shown steady growth in recent years. The logistics sector is one of the key drivers of this expansion,” Atılgan said.
Papageorgiou and his delegation—including Christos Stampoulopoulos, Greece’s Commercial Attaché in Istanbul; Vivi Kalamara, Project Manager at Enterprise Greece; and representatives of companies attending LogItrans 2025—held talks at the ITO. The meeting focused on strengthening regional logistics networks. Both sides agreed to organize an online briefing event bringing together leading logistics sector representatives from both countries under the coordination of ITO.
Tender Process to Begin
Dr. Atılgan emphasized that the visit represented a valuable opportunity for bilateral cooperation, noting:
“Today, we exchanged extensive views on supply chain management, transportation infrastructure, and the strengthening of regional logistics networks between the two countries.”
He added that ITO supports joint projects in the logistics sector and highlighted the mutual agreement to organize an online event that could pave the way for new partnerships between Turkish and Greek companies.
Members of the Greek delegation stated that Türkiye has upgraded its customs infrastructure and adapted it to next-generation trade standards. They added:
“Tender processes will begin for modernization works on the Greek side as well. The Bahçeköy (Kipi) Border Gate will become more suitable for trade and transit after the upgrade. We must also do our part in this process.”
The modernization of the Kipi–İpsala border crossing is expected to enhance bilateral trade flows and strengthen regional connectivity.
