Grandfather of malnourished child beaten in Dedeağaç
The grandfather of a three-year-old boy who died from severe malnutrition was assaulted by unknown individuals at the family home in Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli) and is hospitalized in critical condition.
The attack occurred days after the child was taken by his mother to Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli) University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Medical examinations revealed evidence of prolonged and extreme malnutrition.
According to available information, the child is believed to have died about 24 hours before being brought to the hospital last Wednesday.
Local media reported extensive damage to the family’s home, including broken windows and destroyed furniture.
Following the incident, the child’s mother, who lives in Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli), was arrested on charges of exposing a minor to danger.
The father is reported to be working abroad, in Turkiye.
Authorities are awaiting the results of the forensic examination, after which the case file will be submitted to the prosecutor.
Further statements from the mother and relatives are expected in the coming days to clarify the circumstances and duration of the child’s deprivation of food.
