“The region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace can and must become a model of development and cooperation within the European framework,” stated Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis during a working dinner held with Greek Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) as part of his visit to Brussels.

The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation and align efforts toward a shared European future for the region.

During the discussion, participants examined the prospects and strategic potential of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace — a region with a unique geographic position, a highly skilled workforce, and vast development opportunities. As a strategic crossroads of Europe, located between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, the region plays a crucial role in the EU’s energy and defense security.

Governor Topsidis emphasized that the regional administration is working with planning and determination to transform geography into an advantage, knowledge and innovation into driving forces of growth, and cross-border cooperation into a bridge of opportunities.

The dinner also focused on the importance of EU Cohesion Policy, described as the strongest tool for balanced development and genuine solidarity, enabling regions to take the lead in planning and decision-making based on their real needs.

Eastern Macedonia and Thrace can and should serve as a model for growth and cooperation within the European context. With unity and confidence in our strengths, we are building the future of our region within a strong and cohesive Europe,” said Governor Christodoulos Topsidis.
