Former WTMUGA President Mehmet Bağdatlı passes away at 82

Dr. Mehmet Bağdatlı, former president of the Western Thrace Minority Higher Education Association (BTAYTD) and former local government official, passed away at the age of 82.

Dr. Bağdatlı served for many years as an internal medicine specialist at Komotini State Hospital and held positions in the Komotini Municipality and the Rhodope Regional Council. His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 5, following the afternoon prayer at the Yenice Neighborhood Cemetery.

He had recently suffered a brain hemorrhage.

In a statement from BTAYTD, it was said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Mehmet Bağdatlı, one of our former presidents and founding members. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace."

His daughter, Eylem Bağdatlı, also shared a message on social media: "Our beloved father, Dr. Mehmet Bağdatlı, has passed away. We are grateful to all his colleagues and healthcare workers who supported us during his month-long hospitalization. His funeral will take place tomorrow, Saturday (5.10.2024), after the afternoon prayer from our home in Yenice (ΑΙΝΕΙΟΥ 14) and he will be laid to rest at Yenice Neighborhood Cemetery."
