“Finally, local self-government”: KEDE opens the way at its annual congress in Dedeağaç

The city of Dedeağaç will host the Annual Congress of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) from November 6 to 8, 2025.
The congress comes at a particularly critical moment for the institution of Local Government, coinciding with the completion of the drafting of the New Local Government Code, according to airetos.gr. KEDE stresses that this Code marks the first substantial step toward an overall reform of the state and local governance model—an issue long at the center of the Union’s demands.
This year’s central motto, “Finally, Local Self-Government,” highlights the need to strengthen the constitutional autonomy of municipalities. Discussions will focus on ensuring that the voice of local government carries greater weight in decision-making centers, as well as its role in shaping policies that directly affect citizens’ daily lives.
On the occasion of the Dedeağaç congress, KEDE is also expected to unveil a new national vision for Greece 2035:
“A Greece that guarantees equal opportunities for progress, prosperity, and a better everyday life for every citizen, regardless of place of residence.”
