Ferhat calls for inclusion of Rhodope in greenhouse farming grant program
Özgür Ferhat, a Member of Parliament from the New Left party representing Rhodope, has submitted a parliamentary question requesting the inclusion of Rhodope in the regions eligible for an increased 60% grant for greenhouse farming.
Through this initiative, Ferhat addressed the Ministries of Agriculture and Food, Environment and Energy, Development, and Interior, highlighting the necessity of adding Rhodope to the new greenhouse farming support program and utilizing the region’s geothermal potential.
Currently, regions affected by natural disasters—including Evros, Thessaly, the North Aegean islands, and areas transitioning away from coal—receive a 60% grant. However, despite suffering severe damage in August 2023, Rhodope was excluded from this scheme and remains eligible for only limited financial support.
MP Ferhat posed the following questions to the relevant ministries:
- Will Rhodope be considered for the 60% greenhouse farming grant?
- What criteria were used to determine eligible regions, and why was Rhodope excluded despite its severe damage?
- Are there any plans to utilize Rhodope’s geothermal resources?
- Are there any existing or future projects for using geothermal energy for heating purposes?
Concluding his statement, Ferhat emphasized that "utilizing Rhodope's natural resources is of strategic importance for the region’s sustainable development and the improvement of local living conditions."
