End of year message from Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union
Due to the end of an academic year, the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union has published a press release.
In a press release signed by BTTOB President Aydın Ahmet on Tuesday, June 15, messages were given to students, teachers and parents of students.
Highlighting the importance of mother tongue Turkish, the chairman of BTTÖB in the statement advised students to stay away from digital games and mobile phones during the summer vacation and to read a lot of books.
QUALITY TEACHERS
It was noted that the survival and development of minority education depends on quality teachers. The statement said: “The modernization of minority education, the enrichment of our culture, the development of the Turkish language and the increase of the expression power of minority children are in your hands.
I sincerely believe that your aim is to raise the level and quality of education given to our children, and to raise well-informed, contemporary generations that are loyal to our history, culture, national and moral values.
At the end of an academic year that you left behind by working hard for this purpose, I wish you and your family a good holiday in good health.”
“SUPPORT YOUR OWN SCHOOLS”
In the statement, it was stated that the only way for minority schools to survive is the support of the minority in their own schools.
“Our biggest request from you is that you send your children to minority schools for the sake of minority education and the survival of our minority.
You should never forget that you, the parents, are the owners of our schools and that you have the right to control our schools and the quality of education in our schools through the councilors you choose.” expressions in the press release were included.
The last part of the statement, which also touched upon the difficulties experienced by the Western Thrace Turkish Minority in terms of education, is as follows: “In recent years, our schools have been closed one by one, on the pretext of lack of children, without taking into account the education rights of the minority arising from the treaties, and without any consultation with the members of the minority. In order to stop this, we have to act consciously.
Parents who do not send their children to minority schools using the quality of education in schools as an excuse should not forget that all educated people around them graduated from minority schools.
In the years when we went to minority schools, technology was not that advanced and various educational opportunities were not that common.
Despite this, minority schools have given us an incredible awareness and developed a sense of belonging to the minority. Although it is always possible to compensate for our child's lack of education, the way to regain his lost self is very difficult.
I would like to underline once again that our primary goal is to raise generations that are loyal to our history, culture, national and moral values, and that this will only be possible with minority schools. We have to think carefully about this and make the right decisions. Because we have to calculate that this decision will affect our child's whole life. With these feelings and thoughts, I wish you, the parents, to have a nice and pleasant time with your children.”
