An important new initiative is being launched across the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, where 5,000 high school students will receive first aid and defibrillator (AED) training under the AMESOS project, a joint program between the Regional Authority, the National Emergency Aid Service (EKAB), and the Regional Directorate of Education.

At the program’s launch event, Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis described the project as “not just an acronym, but a message of life.” He added:

“Our goal is to instill in our young people the ability and confidence to respond quickly and correctly in emergency situations.”

Under the initiative, first-year high school students throughout the region will receive hands-on training in:

  • Responding to airway obstructions
  • Performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • Using an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Providing first aid for injuries

Deputy Regional Governor for Health and Family Policy Giorgos Dalakouras said the program would “strengthen young people’s awareness of life-saving skills.” Meanwhile, Regional Director for Education, Lifelong Learning and Youth Stylianos Katsogridakis emphasized that “our region is investing in a culture of prevention, setting an example for the entire country.”

Through AMESOS, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace aims to equip its younger generation with critical life-saving abilities, while also promoting solidarity and community resilience.
