Efforts to contain sheep and goat plague continue; 24,000 animals culled
The primary effort to contain sheep and goat plague is focused on the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, according to a statement from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
Meetings were held on Wednesday in Alexandroupolis and Komotini, while on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Christos Kellas led similar discussions in Kavala and Xanthi. Meetings will continue on Friday in Serres and Thessaly.
Efforts are being made to fully utilize the 10-day livestock movement ban, and the success of the containment and eradication efforts will depend on strict adherence to biosecurity measures across the region.
Additionally, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is expected to soon announce the recruitment of veterinarians.
As of the latest data, there have been 110 cases of sheep and goat plague nationwide, with 24,000 animals culled.
