Intensive traffic inspections, awareness actions, and strict “zero tolerance” enforcement on helmet use were carried out across six regional units in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, aiming to reduce road accidents and improve rider safety.

Between 24 and 30 November 2025, officers of the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace conducted 966 checks, confirming a total of 32 violations for failure to wear a protective helmet under the regional campaign “Zero Tolerance for Helmet Non-Use.”

Targeted Controls Across Six Regional Units

The coordinated inspections were carried out by Traffic Police Services in:

  • Kumçiftliği
  • Dedeağaç
  • Rhodope
  • İskeçe
  • Kavala
  • Drama

The checks focused on riders of mopeds, motorcycles, three-wheelers, and rental vehicles without cabins, as well as professional delivery drivers, ensuring compliance with mandatory helmet use for both operators and passengers.

Police recorded:

  • 16 violations by motorcycle/moped drivers
  • 9 violations by motorcycle passengers
  • 7 violations by operators of Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEV)
  • Public Awareness Actions

In addition to enforcement, police services in Alexandroupolis, Rhodope, Kavala, and Drama carried out community outreach activities. Officers delivered talks on:

  • the mandatory use of protective helmets
  • road safety principles
  • traffic education

Information leaflets were also distributed to residents in various areas to reinforce responsible riding behavior.

“A Helmet Saves Lives”

Authorities emphasized that wearing a helmet is more than a legal obligation — it is an act of personal responsibility and collective maturity, representing a simple, accessible, and often life-saving measure.

Checks to Continue with Full Intensity

Police announced that inspections will continue unabated throughout the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to ensure compliance and enhance road safety for all riders.
