Directorate of Civil Protection of the EMT Region warns citizens for heat
The Directorate of Civil Protection of the Prefecture of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace issued an emergency bulletin on the deteriorating weather situation with the extreme increase in temperatures.
According to the Emergency Weather Bulletin of the Hellenic Metrological Authority (EMY), the Southwest Current, which will be effective in the lower levels of the atmosphere off the African coast and in the central Mediterranean, will carry warm air masses to the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, causing very high temperatures in our country.
The highest temperatures will be observed in the interior of mainland Greece (especially in the west and north) and the eastern Aegean islands. In the coastal parts of the mainland, the maximum temperature value will be 2 to 4 degrees lower due to the effect of sea breezes. Minimum temperatures will fluctuate at high levels, especially from Monday, 15 July 2024. Especially for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the temperature will be between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius on Saturday, 13 July 2024, and between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 14 July 2024 and Monday, 15 July 2024.
In the middle of next week, temperatures are expected to reach their peak. The Directorate of Civil Protection of the Prefecture of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has asked citizens to be especially careful and to take measures to protect themselves from the risks arising from the spread of high temperatures, as well as people belonging to vulnerable groups, in order to avoid health problems such as heat. In the statement, it was stated that the prevailing high temperature may also cause fatigue or heat stroke.
