Customs officers in Kipi seize illegal goods including MRI contrast agent
Customs officers in Kipi, Evros, have intercepted a wide range of illegal items during their inspections from October to December 2024, according to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). The seizures included large sums of undeclared cash, counterfeit goods, illicit tobacco products, illegal alcoholic beverages, and even vials of a substance used as an MRI contrast agent.
Specifically, the following items were confiscated:
834,960 euros
24,345 US dollars
222,905 Turkish lira
73 British gold sovereigns
10,100 Swiss francs
23 cheques worth 7,137,276 Turkish lira
Additionally, using the detection dog "Magnum," officers found a significant quantity of smuggled tobacco products in vehicles arriving in Greece:
113,000 cigarettes
6.1 kg of tobacco
Also seized were:
26 bottles of illegal alcoholic beverages
28,537 counterfeit items
Finally, during a check of a bus driven by a Kosovo passport holder, customs officers discovered 432 vials (15 ml each) containing gadobutrol, a substance used for MRI imaging. The total value of these vials was 22,730 euros.
