Arrests of six traffickers in Rodopi, Evros and Xanthi
On Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th August 2023, in the areas of Rodopi, Evros and Xanthi, six traffickers were arrested by police officers from the Police Departments of Rodopi, Alexandroupolis and Xanthi, who were promoting irregular migrants inside the country on six different occasions.
More specifically, at midday on Thursday on the Alexandroupoli-Komotini National Road, police officers of the Sappdm Border Guard Department arrested a trafficker, because they spotted him driving a car without a driving license and illegally transporting five illegal immigrants into the country.
In the second case, on the same noon at Egnatia Street, Komotini-Xanthi, policemen of the Border Guard Department of Iasmos arrested the second smuggler, because driving a car, deprived of a driver's license, he illegally transported eleven irregular immigrants to the hinterland.
In the third case, in the afternoon of the same day, on the Egnatia street of Kipps - Alexandroupolis, the third smuggler was arrested by police officers of the Soufli Border Guard Department with the assistance of police officers from the Alexandroupoli Police Department, because he was spotted as a car driver illegally transporting five illegal immigrants into the country Immigrants.
It is noted that the driver - trafficker, who lacks a driver's license, initially did not comply with a police stop sign and sped off, while the vehicle was subsequently stopped and arrested.
In addition, as it was established, the vehicle has been declared embezzled on 1-8-2023 to the Attica police department.
In the fourth case , on the same afternoon in a settlement of Evros, police officers of the Border Guard Department of Tychero arrested the fourth trafficker, because they spotted him driving a car and illegally transporting four irregular immigrants into the hinterland.
In the fifth case, in the evening in a rural area of Evros, a smuggler was arrested by police officers of the Soufli Border Guard Department, because he was spotted driving a car illegally transporting four irregular immigrants into the country.
It is noted that the perpetrator, initially in sight of the policemen, sped off, then stopped the vehicle and was arrested.
In the sixth case, in the early hours of Friday morning on the Komotini - Xanthi National Highway, another trafficker was arrested by police officers of the Xanthi Border Guard Department, because while driving a car, he illegally transported four illegal immigrants into the country.
The above mentioned vehicles and mobile phones were confiscated.
Those arrested will be taken to the competent Prosecutors, while the preliminary investigation for the six cases is being carried out by the Border Guard Departments of Sappes and Iasmos Rodopi, Soufli and Tychero Alexandroupoli and Xanthi.
