Announcement from Maroneia-Sapes Municipality regarding debt payments

The Municipality of Maroneia-Sapes has announced the extension of the deadline for the payment of debts to the municipality and its regional units, in accordance with Article 38 of Law No. 5176 (Official Gazette 17/A/07.02.2025), covering debts finalized by October 31, 2024.

Any debtor wishing to be included in this arrangement must submit an application to the Financial Services Department of the Municipality of Maroneia-Sapes by March 14, 2025.

Under this arrangement, debtors can settle their debts in up to 60 installments.

Key Points of the New Regulation:
The arrangement applies to both individuals and legal entities (businesses) and includes all debts owed to municipalities and municipal legal entities.
Installments will be monthly, equal (except for the last one), and no less than €50.

Eligible Debts Include:
a) Legally or administratively deferred debts.
b) Debts previously included in another arrangement, but if included in this one, the benefits of the prior arrangement will be lost (this does not require repayment of previously paid amounts).
c) Debts still in litigation and not yet finalized, provided that the debtor withdraws from legal proceedings.
d) Debts for which settlement requests have been submitted alongside legal proceedings.

Debts can be paid in up to 60 installments, including interest and late fees, as per legal provisions.

Special Arrangements for Vulnerable Debtors
Under the new legislation, interest and penalties will be waived only for vulnerable households. This exemption applies to households certified as vulnerable under Article 217(a) of Law No. 4738/2020.

In such cases, the exemption rates are as follows:

95% exemption from interest and penalties if debts are paid in full.
85% exemption for payments made in 2 to 6 installments.
80% exemption for payments made in 7 to 12 installments.
75% exemption for payments made in 13 to 60 installments.
