All villages of Maronya-Sappes Municipality declared as "grasshopper"
All the villages of Maronya-Şapçı (Sapes) Municipality of Western Thrace were declared as "grasshopper" by the Eastern Macedonia - Thrace Regional Administration.
The decision was taken upon the relevant recommendation of the Eastern Macedonia – Thrace Region Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Medicine (DAOK).
This development is due to the detection of a large number of insect spots at the pupal stage in uncultivated areas after the locust invasion in 2021 and 2022, and the subsequent damage to local agriculture and livestock.
Declaring areas as “locust-infested” practically means that on the one hand, anyone who detects locusts must immediately notify the Municipality and the DAOK so that the necessary spraying can be carried out, while on the other hand, corresponding compensation is guaranteed.
