986 helmet checks carried out last week in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Police in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace conducted 986 inspections and recorded 44 violations between November 3 and 9, 2025, as part of the “Zero Tolerance for Helmet Non-Use” campaign. The initiative aims to promote universal compliance with helmet regulations among motorcycle and Light Personal Electric Vehicle (LPEV) users.
Targeted checks were carried out by Traffic Police Departments in Kumçiftliği, Dedeağaç, Rodopi, İskeçe, Kavala, and Drama, focusing on riders of mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles, and rental vehicles without cabins, as well as professional delivery drivers.
Police reported:
32 violations by motorcycle riders
3 violations by motorcycle passengers
9 violations by LPEV operators
Alongside enforcement actions, officers from the Dedeağaç, Rhodope, Drama, and Kavala Police Directorates organized public information sessions on helmet safety, road awareness, and traffic education, while distributing informational leaflets to local residents.
The General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace stressed that helmet use is a matter of life and death, adding that inspections will continue regularly and rigorously across the region to safeguard the lives of motorcycle riders and passengers.
