15 July martyrs commemorated in Komotini

Representatives of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace attended the commemoration ceremony held at the Consulate General of Türkiye in Komotini on the seventh anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt carried out by the Fetullahist Terrorist Organisation (FETO) on 15 July 2016.

The commemoration event started with a minute of silence for the martyrs and the reading of the National Anthem. Then the Holy Qur'an was recited by Ahmet Arif, the religious officer of the Komotini Mufti's Office. Mustafa Trampa, the Mufti of Xanthi, made a speech indicating the meaning and importance of the day.

"15 July is the anniversary of an honourable epic written by our beloved nation in the face of a great betrayal that Türkiye was exposed to." said Mufti Trampa, "As it has been throughout history, on the night of 15 July, the beloved Turkish nation defended its religion, values, freedom, independence and law against the treacherous coup attempt of Fetö with great faith, determination and determination, and this attempt was eliminated with the grace of God, the perseverance of the administrators of the Republic of Türkiye and the courage of our beloved Turkish nation."

Finally, Trampa concluded his words as follows: "As the Muslim Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, I would like to emphasise clearly that we, as the Muslim Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, have not forgotten the heroic epic written on 15 July, that we will not forget it and that we will not let the next generation forget it, and that we will continue to protect our national and religious values that sustain us in the spirit of unity and solidarity. On this occasion, I would like to wish God's mercy to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our democracy since the establishment of our motherland, the Republic of Türkiye, and to all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this cause, and to our martyrs who sacrificed their lives while fighting against the treacherous coup attempt on 15 July, and especially to our martyr journalist Mustafa Cambaz from Western Thrace, and I wish health and well-being to our veterans, may Almighty God protect our Turkish nation from all kinds of mischief, misunderstanding, evil and betrayal, and may it continue to exist until doomsday."

At the end of the event, the Consul General of Türkiye in Komotini, Aykut Ünal, made a speech indicating the meaning and importance of the day. Stating that the Turkish nation has shown unparalleled heroism, Ünal said: "Today, we have come together on the occasion of Democracy and National Unity Day on the eighth anniversary of the foiling of the coup attempt by traitors who lost their minds and logic and followed a madman. On 15 July 2016, we witnessed a treacherous coup attempt targeting Türkiye's foundation, democracy and our will. This attempt was thwarted by the struggle of the people and security forces, who defended their honour and the heritage of thousands of years of history, by protecting the administration and the country. With the counter stance exhibited under the leadership of our President, the coup plotters were not allowed to pass; it was shown how strong our foundation, which was wanted to be shaken, was. Our uniformed and civilian heroes in this glorious stance reached the rank of martyrdom and were wounded. The scum of the treason network, who hid in the honourable Turkish uniform and disregarded the value represented by this uniform, martyred civilian-military-police patriots without blinking their eyes and showed that they disregarded the will of the nation.

We and history will not forgive the members of this network, those who sympathise with them and justify them in one way or another, those who have the audacity to claim that they are clean despite knowing all the facts about what they have done to divide the society, and those who knowingly serve their goals and objectives with their own will.

As in all the difficulties faced by the motherland, we closely felt the support of our esteemed compatriots during the treacherous coup attempt. The late Mustafa Cambaz, who was martyred with two bullets in his chest as a result of the fire opened by the coup plotters in Istanbul-Çengelköy, has become the symbol of the stance of our Western Thracian compatriots against the coup attempt. In the words of our President, "Martyr Mustafa Cambaz was a successful photojournalist who devoted his life to the values he believed in and to his profession, who never left his camera with him, and who was distinguished with his works that aroused admiration and admiration. Mustafa Cambaz, along with all these, was a patriotic person of heart known for his integrity, honesty, diligence and sincerity". We will commemorate Mustafa Cambaz with a mevlit to be held in his village this evening. The cancer cell FETÖ organisation continues to exist with different formations abroad. Sooner or later, our friends will realise that this organisation is a threat to the countries and societies in which it is present. As I conclude my remarks, I once again wish God's mercy to all our martyrs, including those of 15 July, and condolences to their relatives, and thank you for your participation."

The prayer for the martyrs of 15 July was offered by İbrahim Şerif, President of the Consultative Committee of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace and Mufti of Komotini.
