1,429 helmet checks, 64 violations in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace

Between August 4 and 10, 2025, police in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace conducted 1,429 roadside checks, recording 64 violations for failing to wear a helmet. The operation was part of the “Zero Tolerance for Non-Use of Helmets” campaign, aimed at ensuring full compliance among motorcycle and Light Personal Electric Vehicle (LPEV) riders.
Traffic Police units from the Directorates of Orestiada, Alexandroupoli, Rhodope, Xanthi, Kavala, and Drama carried out targeted inspections, identifying violations among moped, motorcycle, tricycle, and cabinless rental vehicle operators, as well as professional delivery drivers.
Violations recorded:
- 47 by motorcycle riders (including one delivery worker)
- 5 by motorcycle passengers
- 12 by LPEV drivers
Police in Alexandroupoli, Rhodope, and Kavala also held public talks on helmet use, road safety, and traffic education, distributing informational leaflets to raise awareness.
Authorities stressed that wearing a helmet is not only a legal requirement but also an essential act of personal responsibility and road safety—one of the simplest and most effective ways to save lives.
Helmet inspections will continue at an intensive pace across the region.
