1,334 helmet use checks conducted in one week by police in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
As part of the “Zero Tolerance for Helmet Non-Use” campaign, officers of the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (AMTH) carried out 1,334 inspections between July 14 and July 20, 2025. These targeted checks focused on the use of helmets by riders of two-wheeled vehicles and Light Personal Electric Vehicles (LPEVs).
Key Results of the Inspections:
- 50 violations by motorcycle/moped drivers,
- 5 violations by passengers on two-wheelers,
- 7 violations by LPEV riders,
- 2 violations by ATV (“quad”) drivers.
The inspections were carried out by Traffic Police services across Kumçiftliği, Dedeağaç, Rhodope, İskeçe, Kavala, and Drama, and included rented open vehicles and professional delivery drivers.
In parallel, educational outreach took place in these areas, with officers conducting informational talks on road safety and helmet use, and distributing leaflets to raise public awareness.
“Helmet use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury in accidents and protects riders’ lives,” the AMTH Police Directorate emphasized, assuring that inspections will remain ongoing and substantial throughout the region, with safety as the top priority.
