11 beaches in Western Thrace awarded the “Blue Flag”

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, five beaches in Rodopi and Xanthi received the international environmental accolade known as the “Blue Flag.” Alexandroupoli was represented this year with a single beach on the list.

Greece maintains its second place worldwide among 52 countries, with a total of 623 beaches awarded the Blue Flag. Rodopi increased its count this year to five beaches receiving the prestigious recognition. Xanthi also had five beaches awarded, while Evros had only one beach making it onto the list.

Within the borders of the Maroneia-Sapes Municipality, Soğuksu Beach received the Blue Flag for the first time this year. Additionally, Sarıyer, Meşe, Fener (with its camping site), and Iulia beaches retained their Blue Flag status.

In Xanthi, the beaches Bulustra (Pórto Molo), Lefkippos, Mandra Çukuru, Kalfalar (Mirodato), and Büyük Osmanlı (Maggana) were honored with the award.

In Evros, only the beach managed by Alexandroupoli Municipality made it to the list this year.
