'Centenary Elegance' of Turkish women exhibited at the fashion show in Athens

Within the scope of the events marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, a fashion show describing the historical development of traditional dresses of Turkish women was organised.
In the fashion show titled "Centenary Elegance" hosted by Mustafa Somuncu, Consul General of Türkiye in Athens-Piraeus, 26 different outfits were exhibited.
Turkish women living in Greece voluntarily carried the clothes prepared with the handicrafts of the teachers and students of Istanbul Beyoğlu Refia Övüç Maturation Institute.
In his speech before the fashion show, Turkish Ambassador to Athens Çağatay Erciyes drew attention to the fact that 2023 is the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey and the 500th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Erciyes stated that the positive climate in the relations between Türkiye and Greece in 2023 is further reinforced in such cultural events.
Consul General Somuncu pointed out to AA correspondent that Istanbul Beyoğlu Refia Övüç Maturation Institute, which prepared the clothes in the fashion show, is the first maturation institute in Türkiye.
Stating that the fashion show was about the fashion development of Turkish women in history, Somuncu said, "In this way, we wanted to emphasise how our Republic touched the lives of women and that the most concrete result of the Republic is the development in the lives of women."
Hatice Pamukoğlu, Headmistress of Istanbul Beyoğlu Refia Övüç Maturation Institute, said: "Maturation institutes are institutions that keep our culture alive from the past to the present, try to transfer the heritage they have received to future generations, and aim to transfer our past heritage to the future with their geographical characteristics, cultural values in the regions where they are located, and the personnel, master trainers and students they have trained within them."
Pamukoğlu emphasised that maturation institutes have been working to empower Turkish women and contribute to their development since the day they were first established, and said: "We were honoured to take part in the events held within the scope of the 100th anniversary of our Republic."
Pamukoğlu stated that maturation institutes are institutions that provide training for women to become stronger and better equipped, to be self-sufficient and to transfer cultural values to future generations.
Pamukoğlu stated that the fashion show, with its embroidery, patterns and motifs, witnessed the development of the traditional clothes worn by Turkish women from past to present and said, "We have very beautiful cultural values, the meanings that our traditional clothes carry in the regions where they are located are very strong. There, too, there is a meaning, a meaning that Turkish women give to patterns and motifs. They have already transferred them (embroidery, patterns and motifs) to patterns, colours and clothes as spoken language."
