Harry Maguire, defender for Manchester United and the England national football team, has been handed a 15-month suspended prison sentence by a court in Greece over a 2020 brawl on the island of Mykonos, according to Sky Sports.

Maguire was originally arrested in 2020 after an altercation in which two police officers were assaulted. He was found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery and violence against public employees.

The defender spent two days in detention following the incident and has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

He had initially received a suspended sentence of 21 months and 10 days but successfully appealed the ruling, which nullified the conviction and led to a retrial in a higher court. After several postponements, the court again found Maguire guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery.

Despite the verdict, the 32-year-old will not serve prison time due to the suspended sentence. His legal team plans to appeal the decision.

Maguire’s brother Joe Maguire and friend Christopher Sharman were also convicted over the incident and previously received suspended prison sentences. Both have denied the allegations.
