Manchester United opened the doors of Old Trafford on Tuesday evening to host a historic Ramadan iftar, bringing together faith, football and community at one of England’s most iconic stadiums.

Organised by the Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club (MUMSC) in partnership with the club, the event welcomed around 80 fans selected through a ballot, alongside invited guests, as part of ongoing inclusivity initiatives.

The 2026 gathering marked a first for the stadium, with the Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, broadcast across Old Trafford’s stands. Attendees broke their fast as the call to prayer echoed through the ground, followed by Qur’an recitation and congregational prayers led by English reciter Ibrahim Idris.

Among those present was Moroccan international defender Noussair Mazraoui, who joined United in 2024. Mazraoui, who observes Ramadan while continuing his professional career, attended in support of the initiative.

Academy coach Imran Hamid, a UEFA B Licence holder and Premier League “No Room For Racism” Icon nominee, also took part, encouraging young players in attendance. He said he hoped some of the children present would one day represent the first team and speak at similar events.

MUMSC President Asif Mahmud described the evening as a milestone for Muslim supporters of the club.

Since gaining official recognition in August 2024, MUMSC has worked with Manchester United on several initiatives, including establishing multi-faith prayer rooms at Old Trafford and the Carrington training complex, hosting educational faith sessions for academy players, and organising iftar events for staff and fans.

The broadcast of the Adhan at the stadium drew largely positive reactions on social media, with many fans describing the moment as historic and symbolic of unity and inclusion.
