Women have heart risks too

One in three female deaths worldwide is due to cardiovascular disease, debunking myths that heart conditions primarily affect men.
Experts addressed these misconceptions at an event last week hosted by the Hellenic Cardiological Society, the Hellenic Society of Thoracic-Cardiac-Vascular Surgeons and the women’s association Athenaides for International Women’s Day.
Speakers emphasized that heart disease affects women of all ages, with risks heightened by pregnancy, menopause and lifestyle factors. Regular checkups, exercise and a Mediterranean diet can reduce mortality.
The event also highlighted gender disparities in cardiology. A study found 65% of female cardiologists in Greece face career obstacles due to gender, while 59% report workplace harassment.
