What happens in SYRIZA?
Extraordinary developments are taking place in the main opposition SYRIZA Party. After the criticism of former SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras against Kasselakis and his call for re-election, the re-election of the party chairman came to the agenda.
In his speech at the congress, party president Stefanos Kasselakis said: "Those who thought that I was brought from outside in SYRIZA will now see my roots. I will turn to my roots, that is to the members of SYRIZA and the people of the party. We will re-establish SYRIZA, go to elections again and enter a new process in which the party will become the ruling party. No one can hold me. Only the people who queue for me can hold me. These people will be with us again. I am here and I am standing, I am ready."
Kasselakis announced that in the new process, a quadruple election process will be held as member organisations, provincial organisations, central executive committee and president election. Kasselakis said that SYRIZA should be restructured and should be an open and democratic party.
As it will be remembered, Kasselakis' decision to include questions about the party's name, logo and ideological identity in an online survey at his request caused a major controversy in the party. Following the discussions, former party president ex-PM Alexis Tsipras made a statement on his social media account and called for Kasselakis' decision to re-elect Kasselakis as president. It is a matter of curiosity what dimension the developments in the main opposition party SYRIZA will take.
