Thessaloniki: 32-year-old policeman dies
A trauma to the left cervical region is said to have been found by the coroner in the body of the 32-year-old policeman who died in the early hours of the morning, when he was attacked with a knife by a 44-year-old Norwegian national, inside a beer bar on Katsimidi Street in Thessaloniki.
According to new information, the victim served in the Internal Affairs Subdivision of Northern Greece of the National Police, the so-called "Indifferent". He was off duty at the beer hall where he was having fun with his best man.
How did the killing happen?
From the testimonies of patrons of the bar, it appears that the 44-year-old perpetrator initially argued with the police officer's best man, whom he hit in the leg. The policeman then attempted to intervene but was fatally attacked by the Norwegian.
According to police sources, the assailant was intoxicated having consumed alcohol.
Patrons called for help and alerted police officers who were in an adjacent building where the riot police are based. The perpetrator was arrested and taken to the Security of Thessaloniki, where he is being held.
The best man of the policeman was evacuated to the "Hippocrates" Hospital for first aid.
The perpetrator is detained and will be brought to the prosecutor of criminal prosecution.
