SYRIZA: Text from 1,300 members - "We want space for the Left to express itself"

A text of reflection on the ideological and political identity of SYRIZA is co-signed by approximately 1,300 executives and members of the party. The text is entitled "Exit to the Left" and, as everything shows, it is another step towards the split of "Umbrella" from SYRIZA.

"Our intention and goal is to ensure a political space capable of defending and promoting the identity, character, values, ideas and political proposals of the Left," the text emphasizes.

In the text – which according to information will not be submitted to the Central Committee meeting this weekend – they state, among other things, that they are deeply worried about the future of the party, but also about the political direction of the new leadership group.

"Convinced of the historical importance of the founding agreement of SYRIZA as a coalition of political forces of the broad Left, from the left social democracy to the radical Left, we will not be able to coexist harmoniously in the same party and be represented by a leadership that submits a divorce petition from every political reasoning related to the Left, its values, ideas, ethos and style", they emphasize.

"There is no doubt that the close group of executives surrounding St. Kasselakis is leading, with his consent, SYRIZA to transform into an apolitical formation, unrelated to any version of SYRIZA or even SYRIZA-PS", they point out, turning their fire against the leadership group.

Referring to the new president, they emphasize: "It does not suit us to boast that there is a magic key to government power held by the charismatic leader", while at another point they state that: "The myth of the leader who will defeat Mitsotakis in a duel is or delusion or outright fraud'.

"We want to create a common place capable of inspiring optimism and mobilizing those who are led to resign, but also the "abstention crowd", which is fueled by the mistaken belief that there is nothing to expect from politics, while, on the contrary , almost everything depends on our participation in political processes and social movements," the text concludes.

The text is co-signed by, among others, Xanthos, Skourletis, Tsakalotos, Filis and Voutsis. From Xanthi, Nikos Kaliambakas, former member of N.E., signed. SYRIZA and Fani Karanatsiou, member of SYRIZA Youth.
