Storms to hit Greece before weekend sunshine returns
Greece is set for a brief spell of unsettled weather before conditions improve over the weekend, forecasters say.
Thursday will start with generally clear skies and limited cloud cover, but atmospheric instability is expected to increase during the afternoon, bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms to inland and mountainous areas. Eastern Macedonia and parts of the Peloponnese face a higher risk of severe storms, including possible hail.
Temperatures will remain high, reaching 33-35 degrees Celsius across much of the country.
Stronger weather system due Friday
A more significant weather front is forecast to move across Greece on Friday as colder air descends into the Balkans, increasing the likelihood of locally intense thunderstorms, hail and strong wind gusts, particularly in central and northern regions.
Athens is expected to experience scattered thunderstorms from around midday, with conditions deteriorating during the afternoon, especially in areas near Mount Parnitha.
Clearer skies for the weekend
Weather conditions are expected to improve from Saturday, with mostly sunny skies returning across the country.
Temperatures will range between 30C and 32C over the weekend before climbing further early next week.
Summer conditions are forecast to return fully by Monday, with temperatures once again reaching 34-35C.
