Storms and colder weather move across Greece
Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate gradually across Greece over the coming days, with rainfall increasing and Saturday emerging as the most difficult day of the period.
Crete at the center of heavy rainfall
According to meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas, the heaviest rainfall is expected in Crete, with conditions forecast to peak on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Forecast maps indicate locally high rainfall totals, with amounts potentially reaching around 136 millimeters on Saturday. In some areas of Crete, rainfall could reach about 119 millimeters, with a particularly intense period expected between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Strong winds across the Aegean
Strong northerly winds will continue across the Aegean, reaching 5-6 Beaufort and locally 7 Beaufort. Gusts are expected to reach 70-80 km/h on Wednesday and could exceed 100 km/h in parts of the Aegean during the coming days.
Temperatures set to fall
According to Meteo, Wednesday will bring increased cloud cover across eastern and southern Greece, with local rainfall in eastern Thessaly, Evia, eastern Central Greece, northeastern Peloponnese, the Cyclades and Crete.
Isolated thunderstorms are also expected in Crete.
Temperatures will range from 14 to 25 degrees Celsius in northern Greece, 15 to 23 degrees in central and southern Greece and 16 to 26 degrees in western Greece. Temperatures will range from 18 to 23 degrees in the Cyclades and Crete, 16 to 25 degrees in the eastern Aegean islands and 21 to 26 degrees in the Dodecanese.
Rain in Attica and Thessaloniki
Attica is expected to see temporarily increased cloud cover and local rainfall, particularly in northern areas. Temperatures will range from 16 to 20 degrees, with northern areas 3-4 degrees cooler.
In Thessaloniki, partly cloudy conditions are forecast, with temperatures between 16 and 26 degrees. Northwestern winds in the Thermaic Gulf will generally be light, briefly reaching 4-5 Beaufort in the morning.
The weather is expected to become increasingly unsettled toward the weekend, with Crete remaining the main focus of the heaviest rainfall.
