Serres: Woman gives birth in ambulance en route to hospital – Baby saved by doctor and EKAV crew
A pregnant woman gave birth inside an EKAV ambulance while being transported to the General Hospital of Serres. The woman had first arrived at the Health Center of Aşağı Cuma (Iraklia), where doctors decided to transfer her by ambulance under the supervision of a physician, a nurse, and a midwife.
According to information from ERT Serres, during the transfer, the doctor and midwife were forced to perform an emergency delivery inside the ambulance. The baby was born showing signs of cyanosis and breathing difficulties. The medical team — including the doctor, midwife, nurse, and EKAV paramedics — fought to keep the newborn alive.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the baby regained consciousness and began to cry. It was immediately taken to the pediatric ward and placed in an incubator under close observation by pediatricians. Due to possible prematurity, doctors are considering transferring the newborn to a hospital in Selanik for further care.
