Primary school hours revised: New dismissal schedule introduced for the 2026–2027 academic year
Updated Full-Day Program Offers Flexible School Exit Times
With the 2026–2027 academic year, Greece is introducing a new dismissal schedule for students enrolled in the Updated Full-Day (Oloímero) Primary School Program, redefining daily school hours to better accommodate families’ needs.
Under the new arrangement, participating students will be able to leave school at 14:55, 15:50, or 17:30, depending on parental choice.
Official Decision by the Ministry of Education
The revised timetable was formalized through a decision signed by Minister of Education Sofia Zaharáki, as part of broader reforms to modernize primary education.
According to the regulation, the three dismissal options correspond to different stages of the daily schedule:
14:55 – at the end of the first lesson of the second time block
15:50 – at the completion of the second lesson of the second time block
17:30 – upon completion of the full-day program
Aims: Quality Education and Family Flexibility
The decision, published in the Official Government Gazette (FEK), states that the updated framework aims to enhance the quality of education while offering greater flexibility in daily family life.
Minister Zaharáki emphasized that the updated full-day model combines high-quality learning with adaptable scheduling, benefiting not only the functioning of schools but also the daily routines of students and parents.
The reform is expected to support working families while maintaining educational continuity within Greek primary schools.
