As part of the fight against smuggling, theft and drugs, the General Directorate of Security raided the state student dormitory in the Zografou district in Athens. 22 people, mostly foreign nationals, who committed various crimes, were arrested.

The students who were in the dormitory during the raid panicked, but it was stated that the students were relieved after the wanted persons were identified and arrested.

According to the news in the Athens press, the raid was carried out yesterday (27 September) in the morning. The police, who entered the student dormitory with the secret operation, broke down the doors of some rooms, reached the people they were looking for and arrested them.

A 30-year-old Albanian national, who was on the wanted list during the operation, was shot in the foot when he threatened the police with a screwdriver.

Hearing the gunshot, the students of the dormitory experienced an atmosphere of panic. All students of the dormitory, including many from Western Thrace, were taken out. After the police completed the operation, the students retreated to their rooms.

According to the information obtained by the eyewitness MİLLET, there are no students from Western Thrace among those wanted and arrested.

Speaking about the operation in the student dormitory, Minister Theodorikakos said, “Student dormitories are the homes of the students who study. It is never the place for thieves, murderers, drug addicts. We are working to clear the dormitories of these people and to help our students lead a comfortable life.” said.

22 people on the wanted list during the operation were arrested. According to the media reports, a female police officer who had a special relationship with a wanted person and who was understood to have conveyed information to him by phone was also arrested.
