Plenary approves Greek Parliament budget for 2025; expenditures to rise 6.62%
The Greek Parliament's budget for fiscal year 2025 and the report on expenditures of 2023 were approved by an overwhelming majority in the plenary on Wednesday.
Supporting the Parliament's 2025 budget were all parties except the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and Plefsi Eleftherias, who voted 'present', for political reasons, they said, not related to the management of expenditures.
Parliament President Constantine Tassoulas said that the budget for Parliament in 2025 is 169,950,000 euros, "slightly higher compared to 2024 by 10,500,000 euros, that is, 6.62%, and it is within the margins of the Medium-Term Fiscal Program for 2025-2028." He added that the increase in expenditures relates to the wage increase of parliamentary staff across the board as of April 1, 2025, following nine years of no raises. Tassoulas said that "these raises do not include deputies, whose wages continue to remain stuck."
