Parliament lifts immunity of four deputies, opening the way for court trials
The immunity of four deputies over five cases was lifted by the Greek Parliament on Thursday, opening the way for their prosecution by the courts.
The vote in plenary was taken by roll call, and included the following deputies:
- Vassilis Stigas, head of the Spartiates party, for perjury and slander. He was sued by the former Spartiates deputy and current independent deputy Charalambos Katsivardas. Approving the lifting of his immunity were 271 deputies, while 1 declared 'present'.
- Konstantinos Floros and Dionyssis Valtogiannis, formerly of Spartiates and currently independent deputies, for incitement and perjury over their involvement in an incident in April with Elliniki Lysi Deputy Vassilis Grammenos. Floros is also being prosecuted ex officio for grievous bodily harm, threats, and insult of Grammenos. Approving were 270 deputies, while 1 voted against and another voted 'present'.
- Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, deputy of Nea Aristera (New Left), for perjury. Approving were 272 deputies (the entirety of deputies participating in voting).
The Parliament's Ethics Committee had unanimously proposed to the plenary that the immunity of all four deputies be lifted.
