No extension to road tax deadline, stiff fines to follow, FinMin says

The deadline for road tax on December 31 is final and there will be no extension, the National Economy & Finance Ministry reminded car owners on Friday.
Payment of the tax is made through the Independent Authority for Public Revenue's (AADE) platform MyCar.
In addition, as announced several times, fines on overdue payments will be as follows:
- If paid by January 31, 2205: an additional 25% on the 2024 road tax
- If paid within February 2025: an additional 50% on the tax, and
- If paid as of March 1: double the original road tax.
The ministry also reminded that as of this year (2024), vehicle owners may 'turn in' their license plates through the online platform. Car owners who turn in their license plates by December 31, 2024 will be exempt from the 2025 road tax, it added.
