Eighty-eight percent of motorists in Greece, or 5.9 million of 6.7 million in total, paid their registration fees for 2025 by a December 31 deadline, according to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

According to Kathimerini this year’s punctual payment rate is slightly lower than last year’s 90%, which was achieved after authorities extended the deadline from December 31 to March 4.

The government has insisted that no extension will be granted this time around for the vehicle registration fee payment deadline covering 2025.

Under the announced penalty plan, motorists who pay late, between January 1 and 31, will incur a 25% surcharge. Payments made in February will face a 50% surcharge, while payments from March 1 onward will be subject to a penalty of double the original fee.
