New appointment platform for national ID cards now operational
The initiative aims to provide more immediate and efficient service to citizens. The platform allows individuals to easily and conveniently book digital appointments for obtaining a new identity card or replacing an existing one due to changes in personal details, expiration, wear, or age. This design was made possible through the collaboration of the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.
With this modern platform, the number of appointments will increase, thus reducing waiting times for citizens' requests. The availability of digital appointments will commence on October 1, 2024.
Implemented by the General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance, citizens can access the platform using their Taxisnet credentials.
The platform, found at id.gov.gr, ensures that there is a sufficient time gap between appointments for the same Issuing Authority, allowing for one appointment to be completed before another begins.
Additionally, the hours and days of available appointments may change based on operational constraints and the availability of the Issuing Authority over time and by job position.
Appointment Scheduling Process:
Citizens select an Issuing Authority based on their permanent or temporary address in Greece, along with a specific date and time from the availability list to be served in person.
Their information is automatically pulled from the Citizens' Registry and the National Communication Registry (EMEp). If their details are not up-to-date in EMEp, they must either update them on-site or provide them during the application.
Upon completion of the request submission, citizens receive an email with key information for the appointment and contact details of the selected Issuing Authority.
The appointment request can be rescheduled, canceled, or submitted again, no later than one hour before the scheduled appointment.
Before the appointment begins, the individual receives reminder messages from the platform at the email provided.
It is important to note that in cases of loss or theft of the identity card, citizens must contact the relevant Issuing Authority based on their permanent or temporary address in Greece to schedule an appointment for a new identity card by phone.
