Greece reminds citizens to replace old ID cards before Aug. 3
Greek authorities have reminded citizens who have not yet obtained the country's new biometric identity cards that the transition deadline is approaching, with important changes taking effect after Aug. 3.
While holders of the older identity cards will not immediately lose their status as citizens, the documents will no longer be accepted for certain international travel and cross-border procedures, in line with European Union security standards.
Authorities continue to urge residents to schedule appointments and obtain the new biometric identity cards as soon as possible in order to avoid disruptions in administrative services and travel.
The transition forms part of Greece's nationwide modernization of identity documents aimed at strengthening security and harmonizing the country's identification system with EU regulations.
