Mitsotakis outlines four key priorities ahead of 2027 elections

Prime Minister and New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis has unveiled his party’s strategic roadmap leading up to the 2027 parliamentary elections, formally launching what he called the campaign for a “fruitful third term.”

The party’s slogan for the next election would be “We did what we said,” he told a meeting of the party’s political committee.

Mitsotakis outlined four central priorities for the government’s agenda leading up to the elections. These include support for the middle class, with a focus on lowering taxes, increasing incomes and addressing housing challenges; the creation of a more effective state; the strengthening of the country’s national positions; and closing the development gap between urban centers and the regions.

Mitsotakis also previewed major initiatives expected by 2027, including constitutional reform, Greece’s EU presidency in late 2027 and strategic focus areas such as climate policy, AI innovation, education reform and water resource management.

He called on party members to stay mobilized and announced he would intensify regional tours to engage with local communities. “This is not a pre-election tour – it’s essential work,” he said.

Referring to the broader political climate, Mitsotakis criticized opposition parties for exploiting national tragedies for political gain and accused them of populism, misinformation and destabilizing rhetoric. He positioned New Democracy as the sole pillar of stability and progress.

With the 2027 elections in sight, Mitsotakis vowed that the work done by then would solidify reforms, laying the groundwork for a new chapter extending to 2031.

The political committee also elected Kostas Skrekas, on Mitsotakis’ proposal, as its new secretary, following the resignation of Maria Syrengela.
