Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York on Tuesday, September 23, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly, government officials confirmed. Mitsotakis departs Monday and will deliver his address to the assembly on Friday, September 26.
According to Kathimerini, expectations for significant breakthroughs remain low, the encounter may signal a continuation of “calmer waters” in bilateral relations and could include discussion of specific issues such as an electricity interconnection.
Other Greek-Turkish contacts are possible during the week. A likely meeting between Foreign Ministers George Gerapetritis and Hakan Fidan would extend ongoing communications.
