It was reported that a delegation of members of the US Congress visited the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operations Training Centre on the Greek island of Crete.

In a statement made by the Greek General Staff, it was stated that the delegation, accompanied by US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis, was welcomed by Vice Admiral Frangiskos Leluda.

The statement said that the delegation was informed about the activities of the centre during the visit and pointed out the importance of Volos, Larissa, Alexandroupolis and Suda Base, which were opened for the use of the USA.

Apostolos Mitsopoulos, Head of the Strategy, Policy, Defence and Planning Branch of the General Staff, also informed the delegation about defence policies and geopolitical developments.
