Launch of "Safe Youth" panic button for young people begins Monday
The official launch of "Safe Youth," a new panic button app designed for youth safety, will commence on Monday, announced Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis. "Safe Youth" offers a range of features, aiming to be a highly useful tool for young people.
Alongside the existing 10201 hotline, this app allows both youth and adults to quickly report incidents, enabling the police to respond immediately. Chrisochoidis highlighted the increase in juvenile arrests in 2024, underlining the need for parental oversight.
According to Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglidu, the app will be free and accessible to minors over 12 years old, who can activate the "My Button" feature to alert the police when in danger. The app also provides educational content tailored for age groups 12-15, 15-18, and 18+, covering topics such as sexual abuse, delinquency, equality, and racism.
When the panic button is pressed for three seconds, it sends the user’s location and details directly to the police. Users must register specific personal details to ensure accurate emergency response, and security features help prevent false alarms.
