Labour inspectorate records historic high in 2025
Between January and December 2025, authorities imposed 17,556 administrative penalties, while total fines reached €53.46 million, up from €49.64 million the previous year. Since 2019, the number of inspections has risen by 42%, reflecting a steady intensification of enforcement efforts.
The Inspectorate attributed the increase to targeted operational planning and the expanded use of digital tools. These include mobile tablets replacing paper inspection forms, real-time data entry, risk assessment models, and business intelligence systems drawing on data from the Digital Work Card and the ERGANI information system. Officials stressed that digitalisation enhances — rather than replaces — on-site inspections.
The stated aim of the Labour Inspectorate is to ensure compliance with labour law in a way that protects employees while also safeguarding law-abiding employers from unfair competition through focused and high-quality inspections.
