Justice protests for the Tempi train disaster

Across the country, people took to the streets demanding justice for the victims of the Tempi train disaster. The protests, held in over 180 cities, have become one of the largest demonstrations in the country's history.

Fueled by recently revealed audio recordings, hundreds of thousands of individuals answered the call from the families of the victims. From Athens to Thessaloniki and every corner of the country, people gathered in the squares, chanting "Justice and Breathe."

HISTORIC PROTEST IN ATHENS AND THESSALONIKI

In Athens, Syntagma Square and the surrounding streets were completely filled. Thousands of people gathered under the slogan "Justice and Breathe" for a silent protest, with only a few exceptions where brief chants were heard.

Maria Karistianu, who lost a loved one in the Tempi disaster, had an emotional moment during her speech. Additionally, a survivor of the accident shared their horrifying experiences, deeply affecting the participants.

The protests in Thessaloniki also saw massive participation. The march, which reached the New Train Station, was led by railway workers at the front.

The Thessaloniki demonstration has been recorded as the largest in the city's history.

PROTESTS IN KOMOTINI AND XANTHI

In Komotini and Xanthi, the people also gathered to demand justice for the victims of the Tempi train disaster. Large crowds gathered in the squares of both cities.

POLICE INTERVENTION

During the peaceful protests in Athens and Thessaloniki, tensions occasionally rose. Riot police used chemical gas and sound bombs, injuring some protesters and journalists. Human rights organizations have criticized the disproportionate response from the police.
