Hellenic Police arrest Italian wanted for international oil smuggling
Hellenic Police have arrested a 47-year-old Italian in Varkiza, against whom an arrest warrant was pending for involvement in an international oil smuggling ring, on Saturday.
According to the Hellenic Police, a red notice had been issued against him by INTERPOL. The Italian was a key figure within the criminal organization, which was based in Latin America. His arrest marks a significant development in combating transnational crime.
The illicit financial gain of the international oil smuggling ring exceeds 21 billion dollars, causing damage to both charterers and their respective states. According to Hellenic Police, the Italian suspect enjoyed an opulent lifestyle in Greece, residing with his family in a lavish villa in Vari and driving high-end vehicles
