Three Greeks arrested in European sweep on cigarette-trafficking gang
Specifically, Hellenic Police said in a statement that members of the criminal gang resided in several European Union countries including France, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, and Greece. The head of the gang is a Greek citizen living in a neighboring country and coordinating actions.
The JAD took place in the context of a European Search Warrant issued by French authorities.
In Greece, operations were carried out by divisions and subdivisions of the Directorate on Organized Crime. A total of three Greek members of the gang were arrested in police sweeps in Attica and Thessaloniki on Tuesday following European warrants.
Specifically, five houses and an office were searched in Thessaloniki and Attica (municipalities of Nikea, Aspropyrgos, Alimos, and Kallithea), where police confiscated several items including cellphones, handwritten notes, and online data extracted by the Direcorate of Criminal Research.
The three arrested in Greece were led before the relevant appeals prosecutors.
