Greeks cite inflation as top concern, skeptical of PM’s economic measures
Inflation remains the top concern for Greeks, according to a new MRB poll conducted for OPEN TV, which also assessed public opinion on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) announcements and the payment agency’s OPEKEPE subsidy scandal.
Regarding OPEKEPE, 58.7% of respondents blame the government and political officials for irregularities, while 30.5% point to public administration failures. Most respondents, 77.2%, believe those who received illegal subsidies will not be held accountable and the funds will not be recovered.
On the economy, 54% identify inflation as the country’s most pressing issue, followed by justice (25.1%) and healthcare (21.1%).
Mitsotakis’ TIF measures were judged negatively by 60.7%, and 59.3% said the proposals were insufficient given Greece’s economic situation. Only 7.1% said their household would benefit significantly.
Politically, New Democracy leads with 28.1%, 14.4 points ahead of PASOK at 13.7%. Other parties include Greek Solution (12%), Course of Freedom (11.1%), Communist Party of Greece KKE (8.1%) and SYRIZA (5.2%).
Mitsotakis is seen as the most suitable prime minister at 22.6%, though 33.1% prefer none.
Support for potential new parties led by Alexis Tsipras or Antonis Samaras is low, at 32.8% and 19.3% respectively.
