Greeks most distrustful of the European Union, survey finds
Greeks are the most distrustful of the European Union in the 27-member bloc and are also the most dissatisfied with its response to the war in Ukraine, a new Eurobarometer survey of public opinion has found.
Some 61% of Greek respondents said they “tend not to trust” the EU, just above Cyprus and Slovenia (both 54%), compared to a 27-country average of 43%.
At the other end of the scale, Portuguese (79%) and Danish (73%) respondents were more trusting of the EU.
According to Kathimerini only 27% of Greek respondents said they were satisfied with EU’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the lowest rate among EU citizens and well below the average of 55%.
Asked about domestic issues, 60% of Greek respondents felt the situation in their country was “bad,” with 56% of saying that they expected it to deteriorate in the next 12 months.
Just over half (53%) said rising costs, inflation and the cost of living was the most important issue facing the country.
Only 22% said they trusted the national parliament.
