One in six people use tobacco daily in EU, Eurostat says
One in six people aged 16 and older in the European Union use tobacco and related products daily, according to new data published by Eurostat on Wednesday.
The EU's statistical office said 16.5% of the population consumed tobacco and related products, including e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products and nicotine pouches, every day in 2025.
The figure marked a slight decline from 17.5% recorded in 2022.
Bulgaria records highest rate, Netherlands lowest
Bulgaria registered the highest share of daily tobacco users among EU member states at 26.3%, while the Netherlands recorded the lowest rate at 9.9%, according to the data.
Men continue to smoke more than women
The data showed that 20.8% of men used tobacco products daily in 2025, compared with 12.6% of women.
Both figures were lower than in 2022, when 22.2% of men and 13.1% of women reported daily tobacco use.
Middle-aged adults report highest consumption
People aged between 35 and 49 recorded the highest prevalence of daily tobacco use, with 21.3% reporting they consumed tobacco or related products every day.
