Greek Solution Party insults Türkiye over delay of Soumela Monastery liturgy
The Greek Solution Party has made derogatory remarks about Türkiye following the postponement of the 11th liturgy, which was set to be led by the Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew at the Soumela Monastery on August 15. The service has now been rescheduled to August 23.
The Soumela Monastery, a significant tourism site located in the Altındere Valley of Maçka district in Trabzon, is an important site for Orthodox Christians, marking the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, which is celebrated on August 15.
The Greek Solution Party, known for its far-right views, issued a statement condemning Türkiye, referring to it as "Barbaric Türkiye" and accusing it of preventing the liturgy from taking place. The statement, signed by Th. Axelos, criticized Türkiye for what it described as disrespect towards Orthodox Christian heritage, following previous actions against the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
The party declared that allowing the liturgy to proceed freely without Turkish permission is a national goal and should be pursued by all political forces.
